THE WAVE

hair, beauty, beauty blog, melbourne fashion blog, photography, photoshoot

For years I rocked a look like this one (with a head full of extensions mind you) and it was a hard task to get the perfect soft curl with it still looking a little bit undone and edgy. The hair on Pascale is amazing! Angie can make this happen for you and even on a shorter length like mine we get a great wave and ridiculous body.

ANGIE - Tips on the 'Undone Wave'

You know how your hair sits best so if it's freshly washed or second day hair it doesn't matter as we prep the hair to suit the style. Start with Kevin Murphy anti gravity spray applied while hair is damp pre blow-dry.

You want lots of body so use a large barrel brush with a boar bristle to get lots of height and air in the hair and this will also keep the style smooth and make less work and damage with heat and tools later.

The weapon of choice for this look is always the Cloud Nine wand - Allows you to wrap the hair and create a more relaxed shape in the curl and taking larger or smaller sections depending on your hairs thickness and length. Watch the fingers. Wrap sections large enough to make a wave rather than a curl.Start in the mid section and work down to the ends.

Use a natural bristle smoothing brush and gently brush the end of the waves out while lifting the roots to keep the height in the hair.

To finish give hair a spray with one of must have hair kit products, Fresh.Hair which with give hair a little bit of grit and creates a subtle texture to the waves to get the un-done look. Spray with Shimmer.Shine if not just for incredible shine but to make your hair smell amazing!

MISSONI X TARGET

miss

The collaboration between one of fashions most iconic and recognised brands and a powerhouse with a team behind it with the ability to connect and make big things happen. Missoni x Target is coming and I can tell you it is seriously everything you hoped for. A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to join the amazing team at Target with some of Sydney's biggest media personalities and 'the birds' at Two Birds talking to view to full collection over an amazing dinner. The table was set and we were served with pieces from the range and can I tell you it left me wanting every single piece. The small mugs doubled as mini vases, water glasses donned the signature zig zag and the black and white plates left me in monochrome heaven.

miss1

One of the best parts of the collection was the subtle branding from Target and let Missoni really shine through. The stationary and travel accessories are a must with 2015 needing a touch of Missoni through the diaries and luggage tags.

miss3

Ok I know the part you have been waiting for and the area in the showroom that I made a B-line for - Bed and Bath. Yes its amazing! The towels are everything the mainline Missoni brings but they are all under fifty dollars which makes it so much easier to deck the entire bathroom out. The only problem now is how to beat the madness on the launch on October 8. Online and instore so choose your space and shop like you mean it.

The chair that seems to be in every Scandi style home I love….must come into mine too? Its the famous Diamond Chair by Harry Bertoia. I am swayed by black and with the addition of a new cowhide rug and a long haired sheepskin I feel it will will do just fine. I have to note that in this case I am not against a replica. In no other instances do I do replica of a designer (directly with the branding etc as I am aware that everything on the high street has trickled from someones creation). As a new home decorator my priorities still lie in a new pair of shoes over an a thousand dollar chair which may shift one day , no guarantee.

What did I learn on the streets during NYFW this year? After all we will be wearing the trends seen here in the season to come and most of the time there is a chance that we may be able to actually track down and buy these pieces. Anyway back to my life lessons - White is hot, shirts will remain a staple in my wardrobe in all seasons, Black is also hot for Spring, Red and blush pink may be additions to my usual grey, white, black and neutral color scheme as they go so well with denim, Birks are still happening, I don't care how many amazingly stylish people wear platforms especially of the rubber variety I will never cave and the last if you don't own a midi you are missing some serious easy and fashionable moments when you slip one on.

This week is set to be crazy as we prep for the gown(brown)low and whilst its going to be fun to get my glam on with my dream team Lana, Jade and Angie I am still most comfortable in the smart casual zone. This is my last one so going out with a bang with my above lessons in mind.

TEXTURE PLAY

looks

I had have a bit of technology time out this week and trying my best to keep off instagram #NYFW - serious FOMO. I am not sure if its the week of fashion that is getting me or the venue or even summer in such an amazing city where I have only ever visited in the cooler months including my next one. I am sure when I was there I wished I was here my loves - is the grass greener?

What have we seen thus far that we love? A bit of gingham, Amazing color pops from Wang and of course the crisp simplicity of white. With a decent amount of impending outfits to plan I like that white is on the cards and can always be happy that her darker sister is always a good option. Spring racing will consist of texture and material play rather than prints and color for me and I may just start here with a full skirt with mesh panelling. Let the collection begin!

There seems to never be enough pairs of jeans in ones wardrobe. Each pair different from the rest even though you may have quite a few in the category. More rips, more worn in, cropped, wash, fit, high rise, low rise, hardware…. the list goes on and you get my drift. I love a super skinny, clean black pair with a high rise and of course a good boyfriend. The denim is super soft and the material blends with added stretch make for the perfect additions to the collection.

The shoot - The first edit for LSS with some of Melbourne's best talent. They will share some tips on the looks soon inc that hair knot and the killer red lip. I am so excited to share this with you all and can't wait for the next. Thanks to the dream team.

I have found that I do love a shirt, almost as much as I love a knit….. and denim…ok I won't play favourites. Adding to my collection a stripe from the mens dept in a size that makes for the perfect oversized layering piece. The bigger the shirt the more volume you will get in your sleeve especially when you crop-on-top.

I have a little admission that my shirts go straight to the dry cleaner to avoid the dreaded task of ironing, not enough time in a day to have to add that in!

I think the beauty of interior styling is the personal choices people make on furniture especially when like me you only style your own home - choose whatever you heart desires. I am not being judged like my friends (and super blockheads) Dea and Big Daz nor am I selling my space for the bug bucks so we have the freedom to put a pile of magazines next to the bed, add a lamp and bada-boom you have a bedside. Like always the Scandi style is the best way and gives you plenty of inspiration for choosing things other than the pieces marked for that spot next to the bed. My fave has to be the mag stack for the perfect fashion home and I do love a stool as a table.

Ikea is a good hunting ground but just think outside the square when you are shopping. You can get the cool Leather Straps here for shelves as side tables and a way to bring your mags in.

Now that I am home from a week away in amazing Noosa I am back to thinking home and getting to finish my room. My priority between fashion and interiors switches around and depending if I am needing a new ACNE knit or a new pair of jeans so new home items are put on hold. This is where the mag stack was born, why buy a new stool when you can read Vogue AND have somewhere to put your lamp!

SHOPPING:NEUTRAL CHANGE UP

nut

To change black up a little go to the neutrals. Pleat skirts are really doing it for me and mixed with a knit (especially one like this) you can do no wrong. As I am somewhat allergic to color I rely on textures and details to add interest. A pleat, a ball skirt and all in the midi variety work well as do textures of leather and even a knit material to get your sporty chic on.

Off the topic of clothes I have been a little quiet as we in vacay mode. What we thought was a sunny getaway  pre races and party season ended up (so far) to be raining every day and cold - we feel right at home! Next stop for us is Bali and then we are hitting NYC & LA.Travel bug has hit!

SHOPPING:A NEW TAKE

A new take on your favourites is just what the wardrobe called for.

It is way too cold in Melbourne to be baring toes just yet but in fashion we are always looking forward right? I was hesitant on the slide as the trend was on every leg selfie and #ootd in my feed (insta lyf) but I like it, they are so easy and I love the relaxed vibe they give as soon as you slide in. Socks will not be present - ever. I draw the line.

Tassles are another I like what I see trend and may dabble the easiest was I know how which is in the humble accessory. Loving the bucket bag and the tassle addition is just what I need. Sometimes a little addition is what you need wether it be a peplum detail denim shirt, zips on jeans or a tuck detail on a simple cami a new take on an old favourite both justifies the purchase of yet another piece of denim and I say stick with what you like.

art

My favourite type of wall art is the black and white variety. I have quite a few including my new additions straight from Stckholm, the famous Andy Warhol posters (thanks Angie). As these are impossible to get unless you or a great friend buys them from the Moderna Museet you have to settle for other options, which I must say there are plenty.

I frame with Ikea mostly but I also like to leave the posters unframed and stick corners with black tape. Never dismiss your ability to DIY. Printing images off from the net and make an inspo collage or get your script on yourself and write up some personal quotes. The idea is meant to be raw and personal to you and your space. Find a theme wether it be like me where fashion is my main focus or you may have a few things that compliment each other like monochrome roses or a line drawing of a diamond - whatever inspires you in the space you are decorating.

If you are like me and you like to change things around often printables and low cost items are probably the best bet. I am privy to this look anyway and think the beauty is in simplicity and raw, easy items.

Sealoe

Love the script texts with fashion related quotes and phrases with hints of Chanel . The new gold additions will pop next to the black and white pieces and add something extra to the framed pile.

Therese Sennerholt

The ultimate in edgy, sassy phrases. The pack of postcards are on the way to me to stick on my wall with black tape and clip up on my shelves and marble slab on the desk. Therese's number poster is up next then the 'no bullshit allowed' - so good.

Playtype

THAT M print you have been seeing 'laying around' is by Playtype. The ultimate in posters with scandi flavour. The calling card are the calendars and of course the fonts in which you can buy to add to your own projects.

Etsy

Bargain hunting at its best and some of my favourite posters and printable times found here. I love 'Sams simple decor' and found a great diamond print and the above manhattan print. You can custom as well which is always a great option.

I am not really a massive wrap for girly style but add in a leather jacket and some ankle boots and I could be swayed. THE WARDROBE EDIT

Before its done you underestimate the power of organisation. It changes the game.

home1

homes4

To give a bit of background my wardrobe prior to my upstairs revamp for years was.. lets say not ideal. The space among other things had too much shelving that left me in a constant state of folding. We (as in my brother with me pointing and offering my unwanted help) ripped and revamped, got double hangs in and made the space ready for stage two. Not everyone can or needs to revamp the entire wardrobes makings but I can guarantee we all need a bit of stage two advice.

Stage two - being totally ruthless and honest about what you do and don't need to put back in is my specialty and as my friends and family and ebay and tictail customers know all too well I am sometimes too out with the old. I am a tidy person but not OCD kinda tidy but my next piece of info will fill that void and bring the perfect amount of OCD into your life. Enter Courtney from Edit by Wilde. The gorgeous Courtney works on the process Keep, Edit, Fix. The clothes came out, we assessed, edited and she put all of the good back in and left me feeling cleansed and refreshed with every hanger facing in the same direction and jeans folded and organised in washes and styles. The Edit pile is being felt with later at our massive clothes party and a few pieces being loaded onto my store too. The second opinion was exactly what I needed to get things out and also see what was needed to come back in to fill the gaps in your wardrobe bought with the money you will make when you sell the goods, one womans trash is another ones treasure right?

Its actually amazing how having your spaces at home in order makes you feel ready to start new chapters in your life. Getting deep I know but after doing all of this I promise the clothes hidden away and the out of shape undies and bras stuffed in the drawer represent more than just space wasting. A tick for me from Miss Wilde was this 'out of wardrobe' wardrobe. Holding all of the favourite pieces and the next days wears to stay organised and also the fact that its a part of your decor it keeps you on track in your new organised life.

Courtney is Sydney based but is making her way to help everyone she can so Melbourne sisters rejoice. You can check her and all of her info out here. LSS loves Edit by Wilde.

At home in cashmere and DIY rips. The jeans are a black black and super skinny and tight at the ankles, just how I like it. Cashmere is always a good idea and when bought for under $30 I am onto a winner. I bought an XL to give the perfect slouch and length I am always in need of.  I love a bit of a relaxed vibe and while shooting and doing my daily research on the internet shoes are absolutely optional. A silk shirt and lace layers don't go astray!

In between shooting and styling I had an exciting visitor that is going to change your fashion/home lives. She sorted and whipped me into organising heaven. Watch this space as this one is going to be a go to.

Boyfriend denim on the list to come into the LSS closet

den

Late for a Monday post but it seems life got in the way today! I was in the city shopping - yes I was in an actual shop not a dot com but in a strange twist I was shopping for Nick and in even crazier circumstances he was with me. It was so easy and for me who is always in the mens dept stealing all of their shirts, knits and tees it was very familiar. I have been banned from these new goods however and will get to finding some of my own soon.

Never having too much denim I am up for another pair of boyfriends and may hold on the rips a little for this pair. As we are heading to NYC in a few months I am holding the shopping so I can really dig deep when I get there. This may be difficult with launches, Spring racing and some massive end of season/year/career parties however all these purchases require items I most likely won't wear again…. the challenge ahead.

PHAT HAIR

Getting hair sorted by my girl Angie at Boda with plumping and getting healthy phat on the agenda.

hair

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I do love me some balayage and my natural mid brown always needs lifting to get the light warm brown that I find works for me. Angie is all about the health of my hair and when I was at Boda last she introduced me to Kevin Murphy's new plumping line. Wait for it… it uses eyelash thickening and lengthening technology to get fat/phat/plump hair and prevents it from thinning and fallout - amazing! I have only been using it for two weeks but its soft and when I blow dry its so much smoother. If we are being superficial it also smells so good.

Angie's tip - shampoo twice with the second going easy on the product.Gives hair extra lift and makes sure product is washed out. Spray the BODY. MASS all through hair for leave in and plumping power.

Boda has had a makeover themselves and a hot new site is up. I don't know if I have mentioned it before but she has massaging chairs, you get a blanket all while looking up through an amazing skylight. The Boda team are all awesome.

The old going super fit and chic without dripping an inch of sweat. The other - adding an amazing Acne sweater with j brands, valentino rockstuds and a shirt and you are hitting the sport luxe trend like a champion all while giving off the 'i just woke up like this vibe'. SHOE QUEEN

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I sometimes wonder if you can ever get sick of acquiring new shoes. As a simple, classic and understated dresser (in my own words and flattering description of sticking to what I love) I believe a shoe makes even the most simple take a chance to step out of the comfort zone and they always finish the look. I blame my bestie, who has inspired this post as she is currently abroad and a lot closer to Paris than I am and leaves me resorting to city guides and images of other peoples vacations (or in Carin's case her life). The bestie used to work for a shoe company which lead to an extremely large collection of shoes in OUR wardrobes, whats mine is yours!  I note she will also never see as she doesn't read the blog but I guess she has the full unedited version and the LSS closet always open for business! Love her.

Someone/probably Nick once said to me 'why do you need so many shoes, no one looks at your feet?' Carrie Bradshaw would roll in her tv character grave if she heard such a statement. Shoes are an outfit game changer wether it be your chucks, heeled or flat boots or statement pumps they totally depict the outfit and with a quick change from one to the other breathe new life into a look.

You have the go to pair in black that do what they need to but above all don't leave you with 'the burn' or feels like your you have them on hours after they have been placed back in the box/thrown on the floor-drobe from the night just had. Be fashionable ladies but be smart. No Louboutin pigalle 120's over here thanks, killer!  Enter these beauties from Mode Collective Hot, so comfy, not black and laces - so on trend!

The black blazer. A go to to add polish to any outfit and comes in variations to suit your style, body shape and price point. I am yet to splurge on one which surprises me as I wear the ones I have all the time however this is the beauty of the black blazer that the options are great at all prices. Hence the one I had on today on the gram before I braved the sea of princess's and Disney characters (yes we came out alive). Here - She is a boyfriend style and on sale at Asos. Longer length, double breasted - all good things.

There is always a better option in this case and I do agree that you pay more for better fabric, longevity and tailoring. With this it is always tougher to get the splurge item and takes control with holding back on fast fashion items in order to get it but with pieces like the black blazer it comes down to a cost per wear scheme where I can justify an investment. For now my sale blazer will do...

INTO IT

The small details that make the big picture work.

lang1

I have been busily collecting all types of things to bring my office space together. High on my love list has to be marble and a piece small enough that could be used as a tray, to decorate shelves and being together a space that was otherwise a bit bare. I have seen some amazing marble pots and trays but I personally prefer a slab/cheese board for versatility. I ordered a custom made piece from a US supplier on ebay and I have added some amazing pieces inc these amazing coasters with more below.

Speaking of versatile pieces I had to have a diamond light by Eric Therner in my life. I got mine from local Scandi store design stuff. You can use it as a bulb, have it standing on the desk or in a lamp. You will see her in the next post of my completed desk. The problem with loving scandinavian interiors and styling some of the things I order take a while to arrive. Patiently waiting!

MAKING PLANS

I used to be quite the planner with hand written lists a plenty

and when a trip was near I went into overdrive…..

tri1

The beauty of spare time! These days with a million and one things on the million and first list of to do's fleeting trips overseas are like a distant memory. My last big trip was to my love New York city and I was carrying quite a few extras kilos (which did not stop me from shopping all day) by this I mean a 7 month baby bump. Vegas was an interesting experience on this one and I could say I was all cirque du soleil'd out!

October, as it has been for the past 12 or so years is our window of freedom and this year we are making up for my lack of travel with the above being revisited minus a baby/babies but before that we head to Bali for a wedding so plans are locked in and I am making the choice and asking the question do I go to our usual situation of Seminyak or change it up and venture further away from the hustle? Villa or Resort?

Let the lists begin!

The simple favourite - the white tee.It is the perfect base for an outfit and to layer up like you know I love to do. I do need to invest in some dressy options when this look needs to go into the night and when the tee isn't quite enough. Oversized layers are the key with leathers especially a style like these and a cardigan of the boyfriend variety works with so many looks. Acne has my heart this winter and in my wardrobe building quest for 'less is more, buy better' a great addition to the wardrobe.

Birthdays for me are like New Years eve with resolutions being evaluated and the perfect time to tick off the lists.

My day of birth done and dusted and I got the best present…. A trip to NYC baby! Now for all if the planning and hotel booking which may I add is my forte. When I travelled Euro with my bestie we stayed at the most pimpin hotels all booked last minute. I am getting tougher tips and go tops. There is something always pulling me to the concrete jungle, not (just) the shopping but everything she can offer. I am so excited.  I have been before but a tip is always a good idea.

Theses IM heels are haunting me. I think they are next. Its love! On a home front a diamond chair in black would add to my rooms upstairs…..I am coming with this this week. Big job looks amazing.
