FATHER'S DAY GIFTING

jv

jv1

With Fathers Day on the way I need to get the gifting in place as my Dad and my baby Daddy Nick are those whom need one or two of things but once they reach that a gift idea is gone. How many wallets, watches, Tshirts and books can one guy need right?! As my babes are little other than the seriously amazing cards and drawings you get for occasions I step in and help with the presents to thank Dad for being Dad.

I am the same in this case and never buy fragrance for myself. Its almost reserved for gift options and if like me again you like to have a few on rotation for different moods and seasons we just have to make our choice.

This week I was sent over this John Varvatos scent and it ticks the boxes. The Varvatos brand is all about edgy cool and with Varvatos having priors Ralph Lauren and then at Calvin Klein being the force who gave us the boxer brief made famous of course by Mark Wahlberg in THOSE ads. I myself thank him for giving guys an option to not be in something that resemble a speedo. His range of Cons will tell you the story in their distressed and relaxed cool way. Now New York based with his stores and brand we happily take on these elements when the MR is wearing the scent.

I am as you know about the packaging when making a choice in the sea of scents so it doubles as a bedside element and I can have the Mr's side looking the goods and as though we live in a magazine. Its edgy and the woody undertones make it sophisticated and perfect for the man in your life. If the bottle wasn't enough!

Just the name makes you want to be involved. MIMBOSS has arrived at their brand new Chadstone store and adding a new level to you Mimco must haves. The rose gold embossed passport holder had me at hello and to change it up and really stamp my Boss I went with a single M instead of my usual initial layout. As I have mentioned before Acne pink (or salmon) gets past the monchrome and black and white gates and I may have to add this Beauty from The Luggage Professionals (more on this soon) to my travel story. This tote would also fit in well in the rose gold story if you must.

We are hitting Port Douglas later this year and then Europe next year so I have plans starting and guides to read to map up where we will hit. I am looking the part thats for sure now to sort out how we play!

CHARCOAL BEAUTY

eb

eb1

[twocol_one]Lets talk charcoal. One of those things that you can imagine being used hundreds of years ago and very 'of the earth' so we are feeling good about being natural and chemical free. When I first read about this in particular brushing your teeth with it the thought of having black stone in my mouth may not have been enticing but you gotta try things out to have an opinion. So whats the big reason for us to be turning to charcoal? She is a clean freak. Absorbs toxins and grime and brings it to the surface so you feel a clean like no other. It makes complete sense to be using to get out teeth white and bright then. If I think of my skin I know that what lies beneath is a bit scary especially if you have been under the purple light of truth at your skin clinic (be afraid as no type of filter is fixing that situation) so the idea that having a product to draw the impurities out of the pores and let me wipe them away is welcomed with open arms. [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]I was recently introduced to an Australian made product by Eight Brook , The mask draws out the gunk by a unique oxygenated foam that leaves the skin with a plump glow. The key is having activated charcoal and in this case coconut infused with caviar lime and lemon peel as some of the added extras - fancy!.  I am a regular with oxygen facials that leave my skin so hydrated and the fine lines are no more. When my skin is at its worst I am dehydrated and every expression you make bring a new line which is not ideal. I have been using this for the past week for as I said earlier you must try before you have an opinion and my skin feels so smooth, fresh and clean which I love! I am a secret lover of seeing dirt and makeup on my face washer and am not satisfied until its all off. I am also easily convinced that something is working if its foaming or changing texture as if its working hard and not just sitting on the surface. [/twocol_one_last]

OUR HOME:MILLA'S ROOM

[twocol_one]When you are doing up your new home and you are in charge / the only one that is controlling enough/cares about what and how things are arranged its a massive win. A 5 year old Milla loves pink but not against every color of the rainbow, Barbie, All Disney princesses and princes and also footy. So when it was time to do her room none of the above were in the styling process... just joking navy and grey are counted as colors and blush pink gets passed so we sorted it out. She didn't actually care what I did in here and tells me that she knows I have it sorted out because I am fancy! Funnily enough (or not so much) the walls in here were pink when we arrived but I had an allergic reaction as soon as I walked in and called for the white and black paint. I am also allergic to character bedding and clothing but thats another story.

So when we step into kids room I start the room as if it were my own with bedding, rugs and color scheme complimenting the rest of the house and the items not in the kids category. You then add the details and personality with things she loves around the room to make it her space. I think its easier to build from a simple base so its not too OTT. I love linen as you would know by now and I have a few different bedding options to share in here because a girls gotta have options right? For this post I wanted to share this black 'Ultra Soft' set that is a beautiful soft cover and pillow case for your bebe. It is hard to get the perfect black linen so this is my pick to get some dark tones in your room with a washed and rustic look. The other alternative for linen is stone wash which is from Adairs as is the jersey. I have quite a few colors and sets of the stone wash to mix and match with this jersey and all of my linen.

Luckily for me I love a unmade bed with layers of sheets coming over the duvet cover and lots of pillows. If you want to add a little something to the bed and cant get another new set just purchase euro or standard pillow cases to bring the texture or color in. Just add a sheepskin rug and a tassel or detailed throw and your undone bed is done.     [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]mims5[/twocol_one_last]

If you havn't already you must check out Adairs new print collection. I snapped this piece up last week and they had so many more that I need to bring home. I will do a specific post on kids posters and art work which many from this range will feature.

Tassel Throw, Coal Sheepskin, black Ultra Soft bedding - All Adairs also. (The coal sheepskin is a must!).

The first Mini post for LSS. I promise there will never be any #mumlyf on here and everything will always be pretty but I will share some mini style now and then mixed in with everything I have always been sharing and a lot more of it.  They are a apart of my lifestyle after all!

TABLE BOOKS

[twocol_one]books8[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Whether you read them for inspiration, use them as decorating tools or you just like to take photos of them every fashion styled home needs beautiful books. All of the usual suspect are up first in the fashion category and I am not showing you anything you have not seen on the dressers and tables of Instagram but they need to be mentioned. We will get to the best home styling, travel etc. in the next post and share some more gems that you may not have already.

My store of choice is usually Book Depository as its free shipping and most always the cheapest price. The only thing is you don't get the boutique experience when you go to a beautiful book store and get books. I love that! Net-a-porter comes close. The packaging, the whole delivery thing like its christmas - its fancy enough. I must have the Valentino book and then TOM FORD

One of my favourites is my Louis Vuitton book/catalogue as I don't see it that often gracing tables and its transparent sections filled with content following the exhibition. It is beautiful. I have always had a connection with the brand as my mum, a Navy Doctors daughter lived in a chatau in Paris for years when she was a child - as you do. American but she speaks French and she is my hero. In the attic of one of their country houses was a LV trunk with original travel stamps and all. It fabulously sits in her lounge room and if it weren't so heavy and big I would have a chance of sneaking it away into my own lounge. The brand reminds me of her and all of her stories from her Parisian child hood. Justifying any future LV purchases as they are of sentimental value (kidding).

As much as you buy books and items as you have seen them styled somewhere before buy things that you actually like and tells your story. I love Kate Moss and her edgy style and Chloe as a brand makes me inspired not because of Faye, Drew and Marcie but the elegance of the brand and how they create. Open your books and have a read, be inspired by more than the pictures and see where many of the brands we love and live for on the high street and developed brands get their designs.    [/twocol_one_last]

HOW TO GET THE DESK SET

desk

[twocol_one]Probably the most altered space in my house is the desk zone. Due to its creative influence and where I am working the most I update the images and move around objects all the time as the new ones arrive at my house. It serious therapy cleaning and revamping areas no matter what part of your house and I always find things I had forgotten about and saves me from buying something I didnt need. So the desk - I always have images from mags and editorials around and I also have a thing for typography. I think its clean and minimal but makes a statement. I don't really get motivated by inspirational quotes but more so the type they are written in. All about visuals. Always have been. The accounts I follow on Instagram would mostly be beautiful photos telling a story or someone that puts kick ass outfits together but the feed always tells a story and looks so beautiful that you don't want to stop scrolling.

The next must have are plants, plants and more plants. I know plants are baggage and a big responsibility but they make for great decor finishers. There is something about indoor plants and beinf diva's for me. The hanging ones don't grow fast enough to hang and then they die. I like to think I am a good baby mumma but plants and I don't seem to mesh....yet I keep committing, practice makes perfect right? Or If anyone wants to sell me or knows where I can get a developed and really well grown string of pearls or any hanging succulents send me a line!

[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]

My decorating style would best be described as fashion influenced in a muted color palette with a minimal and scandinavian flavour. I love using bags and boxes of past purchases instead of standard storage boxes and mags make the desk always look full and they are research material after all. Like anything in your business or life use and display what you love, what makes you feel something not just because you have copied it from someone else. I have mentioned before the use of 'content creating' when in fact they aren't creating anything but screen shotting and coping what they see. I guess it is the fashion industry in a way so 'inspired by' is a part of it but why not make a space thats about you and what you love. You want to look around your house and it reflect you and no where more so that a home office where your magic happens.

The last thing that you dont have much control over but if you can choose a spot to set up shop is the most light filled area you can. We have sun shining in Melbourne this weekend and when I was sorting and styling Milla's room and the house was full of light my mood changed. It makes for the best photos as well and you are doing the first thing a plant mumma needs to master is that her indoor divas like light ,but not too much and not direct sun streaming in on the glass as this burns their leaves. If you are an over committing type like me each one has their own Diva demands too so place them wisely.

TIPS TO SHOP FOR DESK STUFF

You will need either magazines or print images from the net etc. I have lots of doubles of magazines (for an unknown, money wasting reason) so tearing pages from them is ok. I keep my mags in really good condition as they are as good as books to me. You can always photocopy mags as well.

I have a pin/mood board as well as using just blue tac straight to the wall (argh!). The beauty of the board is you can mover her around which ill share with you some options soon.

Scandi esq stores that will have all the clips, boxes and stuff you need to make it your own - Design stuff, Norsu, Scandinavian Design Centre, Country Road, The Minimalist and of course IKEA.

Cool chairs - Matt Blatt, West Elm

Desks - I have one in the box ready to roll out but wasnt in the mood before this went up. See already making another change. Its this one at IKEA and most of my desks before this have been the tops and leg mix and match from here to change the space up a bit and not spend a bomb on new desks every time. I do lust after a glass top desk sometime soon.

DEAR NEW YORK

lelab

[twocol_one]lelab1[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Walking through the streets of Nolita, New York a few years ago with my extensive list of where to visit and at the same time discovering hidden cafes and stores that makes New York what she is. A boutique fragrance lab, Le Labo caught my eye with its individuality and vibe one I needed to know what it was all about. You would now be quite familiar with the brand and the well known scents of Santal 33,  Bergamont 22 and The Noir 29 with them popping up on the desks and in pics of the fashion savvy over the past few years. I love the philosophy and story behind the brand told by its two French founders - 'The purpose of Le Labo is to make life more beautiful. We would be musicians and play on the street if we could make beautiful music but we are good at perfume so thats the way we tell stories, how we move people'. The brand is doing perfumery and sticking to their guns on what they are and what it is they believe in and you can tell.

I received this to celebrate Le Labo hitting our favourite Mecca Cosmetica so I get my little piece of NYC and France everyday. Gotta love some individuality.

Shop LE LABO at Mecca Cosmetica.

Do yourself a favour and jump on to the LE LABO site and explore the brand for yourself and you are bound to love it.  [/twocol_one_last]

HOW TO CARE FOR DENIM

[twocol_one]I wear them everyday and if not jeans everyday then denim of some description because its the wardrobes best ever staple. Denim in all forms can be premium or if you are in for a fling basic denim varieties add cheap thrills as well. So do you treat yours like your Louis Vuitton scarf or like your Calvins with a wash a wear? I will lay it out so you can decide wether you abide by the denim care guide or you cant deal with the lack of laundering.

HOW TO WASH DENIM

Don't.... Apparently. Chucking your skinnies in the dark load every time you wear is a big no no. It breaks down the fibre and ruins your wash but I doubt you never spill, go out, have kids or just flat out cant deal with the idea that your jeans are a month and counting with almost daily wear and still getting a fold rather than a wash. My premium denim gets loved and worn just as much as my cheapie Asos and Topshop go-to pairs as you paid the dollars for them you have to wear them.  Most of the time I am spot cleaning but there are times when a wash calls so when you choose to wash you can opt for a gentle hand wash with products specially formulated for denim like Tangent or a denim refresher spray from Mr Black. You can also wash with vinegar in cold water and let soak for an hour then lay flay to dry. There is also the good old shower steam refresh where you simply hang them in the hot steamy bathroom and for a pep up.

If you love and live in black and want to keep them that way the less wash the better and if you spend to get good quality denim you wont need the wash and dryer (gasp) to shrink them back into size and shape. [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Now that you know how to care what do we buy?  I mix my mix is high and low with a few high street brands passing the years of trials with Asos Ridley and Topshops MOTO jamie top favourites but a score of other brands at Asos giving options. A great way to buy into a trend is with these high street brands so if you want to flare or frayed crop that wont be staples or go the distance get a cheap thrill. As denim is your ultimate staple the key is finding your fit and brand that works for you. I have a booty/three kids so body is under construction right now and I pray for her to come back as soon as I move my ass and stop eating ice cream......I only blame myself! I have to high waist as I cant stand bending down and knowing that under my layers my crack is hanging out. I also feel a skinny leg with a tiny bit of movement and length at the bottom looks better with a heel and a bit of distress and knee rip action gives you some flair. But as I said each to their own (body type). I have done some research so , my best jeans in my denim obsessed life so far are:

BLACK SKINNIES  my Rag & Bone's and Maria High rise by JBrand.

BOYFRIENDS Bassike universal jean

BLUE DISTRESSED SKINNIES Rag & Bone and Nobody denim

TREND 3X1 crop fringe

MULTI USE DECORATING

[twocol_one]mag23[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]mag3[/twocol_one_last]

When you color code your publications and make them art. This is in our lounge room and I need the perfect chair of either black or tan leather properties to sit in the corner of this space. The butterfly chairs seem like a plan but I saw some amazing belted and strapped chairs in ironically one of the hundred lifestyle mags and cant remember where to find.....so I start the hunt. I have not forgotten the frame post but I don't want to shoot my gallery wall until my couch cover comes because quite frankly the one I have at the moment is not doing it for me nor is my rug. If you saw my Insta last weekend you would have seen my mums insanely perfect rug that I am considering very hard. Its 50% off - stop it and its from Harvey Norman so you are bound to get one.

So Mags as decorating items - why not? What else are we to do with them other than flat lay with them and pull out (gasp) or photocopy our favourite editorials and type to use for mood boards. I am still a massive advocate for the fashion 'bibles' even with the influx of material with have free access to everyday they are the best of the best and did after all set the bar of our digital aspirations. I don't descriminate however and welcome lifestyle, interiors, travel and occasionally cooking but more for the imagery than anything as being a Masterchef is not in my sights.  I stack, display and even use them as bag and shoe shelves too and will keep snapping and showing all of my 'categories' of reading material.

I am spring cleaning over here and getting a real and updated ABOUT section so you can feel my vibe as my circa 2010 situation and ambition was a little bit different than it is now. Content has grown up, my house got nicer, my camera and I are better friends as we have had a few years to get to know each other and I know what makes me feel something and inspires me so I best be doing for you what others create for me. So no outfit street style posts over here (still) but I will share awesome fashion in my own way and just as I was doing 5 years ago Ill flat lay and mood board my way along. Do I post kids stuff or not? Do I share what I would like to read or follow the crowd? You cant please everyone so I guess I will keep creating what pleases me and see what happens.

WHAT YOU NEED

Shelves are all IKEA. God bless IKEA and even more so when you deliver to my door so I don't go in store for some storage baskets and leave with a couch, a rug and 10 rolls of wrapping paper so I don't have to come back. I do love your displays and clever ideas which make me reorganise my entire pantry through envy so we may see each other just as often.

Handy person which in my case is Nicks dad Dougie and he curses me for targeting him as my handyman I am sure. After these shelves 'while you are here' two more shelves in bedrooms, curtain rod and really quickly change my wardrobe handles....cursing me.

A justification to buy subscriptions to at least four publications so you have plenty of material. They do double as decorative items and the inspo you get from them especially lifestyle and interior mags save you money on a decorator and when you subscribe you save like 40% so you are being thrifty - done and done.

STYLING THE SAC

inthesac3 A color that clearly gets passed my allergies is pink or in this case more prescisely, musk. When everything else is tonal and black and white dominate the space a touch of pink is less pretty and takes an edgy and strong proposition. I had searched for the perfect shade for dressing the boudoir and with a prercusite of linen I as per usual had a narrow search ahead.... but 'My name is Erin Maxwell and I'm a online-aholic' it would be a crime for me to kick this addiction as I am really good at it. My search took me to the fabulous In The Sac linen - they are the business. A sheet set was in my sights as I have about 5 covers on rotation and I do fancy a little bit of mix and match action with all of my linen and this musk color the pep in my white, grey (and hunting a good black) linen collection.

I am 'content creating' like a crazy person over here and deciding on a few moves for my little relaunch. Do I add some mini action? I dress my bebes the same way I do myself and their rooms and things in them are an extension of my other living areas. I will reintroduce myself to you all as almost 6 years since starting this little venture I have changed and well lets say grown up and my style is well and truly locked in. Same site and angle just taking my whole life and styling the shit out of it so you may as well (if you care to look) be shopping and pepping up life with me. As a Gemini (celebrating my birthday this week) my decision making process is not my strong point and I battle my pro and cons and some other fine points but its coming.

SIMPLE BUT NOT TOO UNDONE

st

st1

[twocol_one]tad10[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]Sometimes simple is all you need for an impact...sometimes it looks unfinished. I find when I search inspo and see homes like theses I have faith in the simple system when it comes to home style with not the color palette but more so the stuff you put in and around. The scandi stylists have it sorted with white bases and the approach of less is more making studio apartments look much larger than they are no need for masses of furniture.

Must add linen, books and mags to style, candlesticks and fancy objects placed neatly on cupboards and window ledges. Framed art in gallery style layouts, green leafy plants and succulents and keep the colors muted. Dont forget the splash of gold or a metal and of course some tan leather, which is what is on my hit list now in cushion or chair form.... keep you posted.

In other news I have a new site and new categories to come for all things LSS . I started this crazy blogging journey when I was about to have Milla almost 6 years ago and I have lets say grown up a little since then and the landscape has changed - a lot! So in an effort to offer something more and have some kind of individuality whilst still doing what I started doing (flat lays and mags and computers on beds circa 2010) I will shoot my home, my stuff, my mini's and style the shit out of life. I am coming with it all but I am also a crazy control freak and perfectionist so the pressure on myself for the images and content to be right is extending the process. Better done well if I am going to do it all so watch this space.  [/twocol_one_last]

NEVER ENOUGH BASICS

I have been busy I promise! Almost there with some site change ups and trying to snap and create as much content as I can to avoid leaving you hanging for longer than a week. As I may have mentioned before we are adding more content snapped around my house and all through the wardrobe still. Beauty cabinets will open and like I have always done the still products photography will get pumped out too. I will ellaborate in my usual stye soon.  My reason for the quick check in for a spot of shopping at denim, leather and basic tee heaven , REVOLVE. Aussies are getting free shipping and 20% off selected items from today for three days with code TAKE20. Your welcome!

I had been on the hunt for basics and I never stop needing tees so take advantage. I will add that OTK boots are of the plenty as well and blush heels had me at hello. Loving new denim brand Grlfrnd with washes and rips in all the right places.

GETTING AN ACE BASE

emz

[threecol_one]Is there anything better than when your skin is on?! You are instantly so healthy, well rested and just seemingly glowing. Ironically my glow was during pregnancy so what you have heard seems to reign true. Even if it feels like a lot longer it is an 9ish month situation and I fear my inner radiance will diminish along with my zzz's and hormone changes.  There is light and hope for me yet as my girls at Clinica-Lase were sorting me out over the past year and altering peels and products with every hair flick and attitude that this diva skin through at them so I can rest on the fact that they were my pregnancy glow which works for me because we can be seeing each other without a due date. I had my first appointment with the girls sans pregnancy and I needed the pep up. [/threecol_one] [threecol_two_last]emz3[/threecol_two_last]

Apparently if you don't sleep, breastfeed, are dehydrated for a few weeks oh and give birth to a child your skin pays. I had a mango infused peel and a good go of the Aspect Enzyme mask which is todays little secret for you. Dead, old, dry skin makes you look as dull as an unpainted fingernail and while i was making new life my face was stockpiling old life/skin. How glamorous I know! This little gem cleans the slate so all of the vitamins and goodness of the treatments can actually penetrate and give you some glow. I am a fan.

emz2

Clinica-Lase Carlton does all my skin treatments and you stock the Aespect peel. I highly recommend getting an Oxygen facial - weekly if one can as its the business. I got my lips involved last time and they were so hydrated and plump.

YOU JUST HAPPEN TO BE PREGNANT

pr

[twocol_one]

So you are pregnant..... Congrats! Your waist is disappearing and looking like a basketball, your boobs are double their size and above all none of the shit you like to wear and have hanging in the closet does up anymore. Being pregnant when we are talking purely from a fashion point of view is interesting. Its kind of like when you are getting married and the cake you would have had for a 30th is now twice the price because it will be cut and pretend eaten but a bride and groom.Like entering the bride to be club and the wedding industry is all over you. Maternity is now a new word in the vocab ..... for some anyway. I vowed from the two red lines that I would never wear maternity clothing. I want to make it clear that I am not judging you if you do just for me I want to still have my style and also do not want to spend cash on clothes that I will never touch once I am out of the club and probably want to burn them as they have been on rotation for 6 months! We are re jigging what we already have and know and now is not the time to have a style revamp.

I will not start bombarding you about kids and being a mum on here now just because I am doing this pregnancy wear post but instead of emailing tips back to all of you fab readers and actually checking and responding to the DM on Instagram (which just FYI I am hopeless at so don't hit me up there if you want a timely response)  I thought I could just pump it all out here at once.

So I am going to let you know how it rolls for me. I know everyone is different and you just need to deal with whats going on for you and dress to make yourself feel good. If you retain fluid like your body thinks there is a drought don't be pulling out your triple strap high heels to make your feet resemble a christmas ham or if one minute you are on team Moss no bra club and the next your filling out cups like nobodies business maybe leave the deep V's folded until you are done or you have a free boob job so embrace the boobs you never had.

[/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]

I am lucky (thanks mum) in the fact that if I don't get up at 2am and eat toasted sandwiches and keep things pretty much what they were before and the body doesn't transform into a blob thus having plenty of options to get me through the 6 months (I am aware you are pregnant for 38+ weeks but the first 3 months don't count in clothes world you just look a little bit 'extra'). Again I know I am lucky to not blow out as I know some friends that even if they ate only celery at the sniff of a hormone they blow out. Even if you do don't reach for that MuMu just yet.

For me : My arms and legs do not in fact look like they grow babies in them so I get the bump and some boob and I work around that situation. My blazers, jackets and basically anything that has an open front is a goer. The perfect way to keep these pieces on rotation are to invest in some tshirts in a few sizes bigger than you wear and in the longer line variety. You can still do the front tuck into the jeans to give some shape so you don't look sloppy. When I want too step it up I have been wearing my Ellery top here and Zimmermann here. Very bump friendly and already a part of my usual attire. You also instantly feel good and feel like yourself if you are still kicking around in fab Aussie designers.

*I make an important note that when you are wearing Spanx or a bra and undies that are more on the older side of life, even if people may not know your secret under the clothes you can't hide it from yourself. The band thing that you are meant to wear over your bump I can't have..... get a longer top and get a pair of maternity skinny leg jeans if you must. A sure fire way to feel right in the prego style zone is to don one of these.

Same goes with maternity bra's. Why the hell do they have pregnant models wearing these? We have no need to be flicking the clip during pregnancy to reveal the scary situation under there and a normal bra (albeit in a few sizes bigger) is going to do the same job on the boobs now you are pregnant. These are for after and a whole other situation.

[/twocol_one_last]

BABY BAG - Same goes for the infamous baby bag when you are a mum. I do shudder a little thinking that a Louis Vuitton Neverfull would in fact be very full of milk bottles and whatever else you need to take with you..... or you think you need to take with you.I never know what the hell is packed inside these busting baby bags... Am I totally missing something?  I just keep the same tote I was using before and when I walked into hospital and get a pram bag with a change mat inc and that is more of a pram accessory rather than your own. You can then use your cross body bag for your stuff and have the pram bag sorted. Otherwise a tote with pouches etc inside will keep you together.

PRAM - With the bag to match and a change mat too I have gone with the ever fabulous Joolz for my pram of choice this time around. As the pram will be the newest accessory on days out it and lets be honest around the home at all times so basically a piece of furniture, it makes sense that a girl has seemingly unlimited options for colours, styles and fabrics when fitting the pram into the life. Naturally I went black but have chosen the Tailor collection to pimp it out with some Tan leather handles and grey marl lining. More on this over socials when I have a baby to out in it!

Must Have

*A Black Blazer

*Denim Jacket

*Black stretch midi slip dress and skirt

*White, grey and black tee's upsized and with length

*Maternity denim (black and/or blue denim) I go these or Jbrands because my own get me to about 6 months with the help of a hair tie and then we just have to have some side panel action for the last 3. The only item I buy from the maternity category.

*A few free flowing tops which you most likely already have by Zimmermann, Ellery, Bassike.

*Accessories. Bags, shoes, jewellery and neck ties/scarves are your best friends.

Basically we are looking for stretch midi dresses and fabrics with stretch in them and I would upsize from your norm for some forgiveness in ass areas and more room obviously to get the bump in. Longer line basic tees, oversized shirts and skirts with stretch like pencil skirts and midi length skirts with stretch waists. (You need this from Bassike as I lived in it). I always go the midi personally as I think it adds an instant chic look and the bottom of your legs are usually the best parts so let them shine!

I also recommend a black stretch slip dress too. I got this one but Bassike (again) and many others are around.

GO TO STORES

Witchery - They are all about different sized women with a size 12 being a good size 12 so you have room to get your bump/s in there. Try this, this and this. Don't worry about the seem lines in dresses. if they are stretch fabrication or a knit they are fair game. I think this is one of the big things with maternity clothing that I can deal with (see here and you will get my drift) Makes the boobs look huge, makes the bump look huge and I doubt unless you are 12 you are wearing a babydoll style dress when you are not pregnant so don't start now.

Asos - Plenty of maternity options in the maternity section that are variations of the non maternity style so the Ridley denim and plenty of stretch black dresses etc. I shop Asos a bit but not in the maternity category as there are plenty of stretch options, Tees, oversized shirts etc and all cheap so they get you by and you can wear the shit out of them as basics and not feel too bad when you never want to touch them again post pregnancy. Same deal with Topshop. You know what you need.

Bassike - If there was one brand to shop from its here. Jersey in all its glory with basics to mix through with all of the blazers, leather jackets and accessories that still fit you. Best part is the quality is there so investing in the longer tee's even if they are mens which I personally get to make sure I have length as I am tall so they serve you beyond pregnancy.

Boyfriend denim can work especially if you are petite and a starter size 8 as you can upsize for more waist size and then do the hair tie button trick for later.

.

I could be here all week giving you outfit ideas but have to give birth soon! Continue to follow fashion bloggers or whoever you get style and trend inspo from and everything works around what you got going on. Just fill in the mid section with some stretch basics of tees or even oversized shirts and tuck in.

Enjoy being pregnant and as much as you would love your old body back its a great time to just feel fab and not have body hang ups. Yes its easier to dress without the bump but there is a baby in there and you are a complete superstar to be about to be a mum wether it be the first time or your third and there is a hell of a lot more to life to being pretty and looking good in clothes. Rock it, enjoy it and don't be afraid to still get your stylish threads on.

BRAND RESURGENCE

There are brands we know and have been in the game for many years. They have a massive following and must be of substance or you simply can't handle the retail heat. With the emergence of labels and 'desginers' left right and centre our high street brands keep up with quality, hitting the trends we need at the high street price. Sussan revamps their brand for the upcoming collection with Camel coats, lace shirts, khaki leather skirts and suede wrap skirts - need I say more?

A few weeks ago I was at the brand relaunch with the forcasters and all of the women behind the brand to preview what was (and now is) coming to store. Typically the above mentioned were on my Fall agenda and knowing that a company that makes clothes for ladies is run by ladies thus really sorting out what we all need. I love a revamp and there is always room to fall more in love, back in love or find a new love in a brand based on fashion, trends and straight up clothes you need to be wearing.

su

MOOD1

Check out the new collections at SUSSAN online and instore now.

My top picks have to be this amazing camel coat and there are a few suede skirts that you need to layer over your leather pants with basic tees, denim jackets and warm layers. Wine, Dusty pink and khaki enter the scene and the 'never leaving my situation' of black, white and grey welcome the new tones even if in small doses with open arms. Bring on A/W.

ADDING DIAMONDS TO THE DAILY

pb

[twocol_one]When I think about it I realise that diamonds are very high up on my list list. All of the most amazing moments have a relation back to them - My Engagement, Wedding, Two babies, 30th and possibly baby three (you cant leave one out especially the third in case they already get a complex about being in the very 'relaxed' side of life!). I also bought my self some diamond studs just because which is where we need to discuss. Diamonds have been tainted into being somewhat out of reach and almost something to show off where you are at as a lifestyle standpoint. The bigger the better, the more you have...well the more you have. Seen to be somewhat out of reach and that you can only aquire if someone is putting a ring on it or has endless bank accounts.  I see them differently.

Lets bring them back to being an accessory and a piece of our style and fashionable lives. By the looks of life or pretend life in squares on Insta Chanel seems to have become as accessable and affordable as Asos but if its not from Bali or dodgy rip off internet sites (which I question often) the option to splash the cash is open. Unlike a Chanel Boy diamonds do not have a rrp and as best friends they do indeed last forever, are flawed and in all shapes and sizes to be your match. I love me a designer bag don't get a sista wrong and do regularly 'invest' in such wares but my sentimental gift of choice are diamonds and guess what? They are unlike anyone elses. The reason I bring bags into the picture is that the going rate of a designer bag that you buy yourself or get as a gift is the same as a diamond band or even a pair of studs. Shout yourself some bling instead of another bag and rethink the diamond game.   [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]As in many things the bigger the budget the bigger the item but as we all know you have options to change cut, size and clarity or have a half diamond band instead of full. If you want to play in the fashion space still when investing in your pieces but don't feel the pull of the mass department store esq diamond stores with all name and brand behind the purchase and while I am sure they are amazing diamonds you will not get what you pay for. Gracing the pages of Vogue and fashion publications I met with the team at Paul Bram last week to chat diamonds and start planning my next band of love. I had my three bands and engagement ring cleaned and re-dipped (as I stupidly didn't have them set in platinum) and It was like they had just come out of the cabinet.Loving myself sick wearing them around. I took home a few to test out and have coloured stones in my sights with sapphires and diamonds having me at hello.

My diamond style is much like my other fashion and jewellery choices simple and classic and I do love a metal contrast with yellow golds and white golds being mixed together all the time but I keep my diamonds all set in white gold/platinum if I'm smart.  The next addition will be similar to one of my others and I will wear her over on the other hand along side my Cartier love ring as everyday, never taking these off accessories which for me is a very savvy 'cost per wear' investment.

Don't be scared of diamonds or going in to shop for some. Have a budget and see what you can create. They will not date, be last season and each one is unique which these days is hard to come across. As we all love options you will be sorted with a size, shape and colour to suit you and your wallet. Do it! [/twocol_one_last]

NEW SEASON, NEW WARDROBES

trend

Technically we have moved into Autumn yet we are yet to feel the season change here in Melbourne that I am desperately awaiting. While we still have our summer wardrobe hanging around I have been planning and sourcing my next purchases for a while. I can't get enough of knits and layers - ever. So what do I have coming into the wardrobe? I don't love the sense of the word 'trends' but you cant ignore what brands are selling and what styles filter down to the high street. I prefer to take the trend and adhere it to my own style. Take the 70's flavour. I will inject a bit of tan into my sea of black leather and may give a suede midi a go. I happen to already love denim but this season we see flares, cropped, frayed edges and high waists continue so you can step outside your skinny leg, ripped knee zone if you feel like tapping into something new.

As new seasons come as do new levels of spending which I am not against of course if it involves 'Investment' purchasing but picking up smart staples to add into the mix does not go unnoticed. My monthly trip to UniHill had me ticking some boxes of trend pieces to top up the wardrobe.

First buy was a knit dress/oversized knit to envy my Hope Stockholm knit that I will and have worn at every opportunity I can. You gotta love the ease of skinny jeans, cons and a beautiful knit. I hit up Witchery and with an extra % off the sale I snapped up the grey marle perfection in a knit. Coming into winter and I got a knit on sale and sale again! Yep.

Next note would be the introduction of blush pink. Yes you heard right I am going to add some blush or nude through 'the drobe'. Tapping into the 'Romantic' trend but keeping it real for me is the use of the softer tones and coloring in a piece that works in with my own style. You don't have to go and buy a floral dress or embrace your inner boho if its not you. Country Road had me at hello with two full racks of sweater love in the perfect 'Acne' pink. Just add some layers of tee's and a shirt, a leather jacket and some denim for the perfect slightly pretty flavour without losing the edge.

On the feet - Sneakers, mules and statement boots. There is a seriously good Converse store with every color, style and size you could ask for and I may or may not have been able to save enough to spend more on some kids kicks and mini cons socks for the one on its way. We all win!

TIPS

  • Feeling the romance and 70's vibe from Chloe and Zimmermann? Add some softer shades or color to the existed leather and denim pieces you wear religiously.
  • Get flat. Sneakers and runners are having some serious limelight moments so embrace the comfort and sporty cool vibe, why wouldn't you?!
  • Layer Up. All the time and that includes neck ties, lace sleeves under shirts and jackets and also the humble Tee can work hard for you when wanting to achieve the right look. Be polished but undone like you just threw something together yet the hair, makeup and accessories say otherwise.

LET THE SHOWS BEGIN

djs7

VAMFF kicked off in perfect fashion tonight with The Opening runway by David Jones making our shopping lists very lengthy. Nothing like beautiful girls and top styling to justify that Bassike skirt you have been eyeing off. Plenty of reinteration that the 70's vibe isn't going anywhere. Loving the midi lengths and the winter feel - after all it is Autumn.

As a girl who is on a muted and monochrome palette I am very tempted to add in some Burgandy hues and already have introduced Khaki and some blush pink by the way of tee's and sweaters - so nothing too crazy for now. Lace is still having a serious moment and the above scheme in lace with grey and black works a treat. Bring it on.

One of my favourite muses and stylers Erin Wasson walked the runway tonight and has hit our shores to launch her new jewellery line in store at David Jones Bourke Street tomorrow. A world class supermodel showing everyone how edgy cool is done is always a good thing so take note. Ill be checking it out and will be sure to report back on all of the pieces you will need to have on your body.

You can shop everything David Jones in store and online now and make sure you keep up with all of the action on the VAMFF website and their social media accs. They are snapchatting their way through the festival as well (MELBFASHIONFEST).

Their are activations and Tickets still left for the festival so best not have FOMO and be front and centre of the action. The beauty of the festival this year is its being held at the Royal Exhibition Building so you can get your shop on and get amounst the action all week.

See you there!

WELCOME VAMFF

As a true Melbourne girl with my love of fashion, food and well lets be honest more of the down to earth category of people as compared to other certain states we must celebrate the amazing city we call home. A week of fashion all around the city and the largest consumer fashion event in the country its all about Melbournian's getting their shop on and experiencing the city more than you have before. The invitation is there so we might as well take it right? Any excuse for a night out?

I have been breaking it down and making a list of what I mark as the must do events and which runways I will be at, sneaking backstage to snap the action and deciding what I can buy once my guts and ass for the matter are no longer double their size. This year I am a digital Advocate along side some great Melbourne fashion creatives to get the action to you from the shows and around the city. I will be on the gram (ejmaxwell) and here and I do dabble in some snapchat action which is mostly of my dogs when I do remember to use it but I have to admit that as the 'next big thing' its not changing much for me other than getting to know people I follow on Instagram a little bit more in depth...... the saying 'be seen and not heard' reigning true with the selfie brought to life in the form of monotone voice describing in detail what they are doing for the next few hours in the day - all very testing and stressful situations I might add whilst looking back at their face making sure they are very pretty whilst doing so.... I think I need to reassess my following choices. Anyway back to topic and to VAMFF. Don't sit back and watch from the sidelines, get tickets to the shows featuring your favourite designers and check out the events around the city. Its much better seen and and felt for yourself but when you can get a ticket I will give you the heads up below on who will keep you in the loop without boring monotone selfies involved.

WARDROBE ESSENTIALS:THE DENIM JACKET

dedenim9

[threecol_two]den3[/threecol_two] [threecol_one_last][/threecol_one_last]

I know I would have put this item forward a few times before but she has to be officially entered into the staple wardrobe collection as I wear mine basically every day in all different situations. My vibe is a mid wash as I find it the most versatile to take you from AM to PM and a little distressed because aren't we all a little bit of that? Of course I am inclined to make multiple wash selections as just like my bottom half denim can do no wrong and makes life easy for everyone in the wardrobe stakes.

I have loved and lived in this jacket for a year, give or take and wanted a slightly longer fit and upgrade into some premium denim brands for my investment. The three Current/Elliott options are the same 'Trucker' style just in three color options which as ladies we love an option... but as ladies we probably now find a choice hard to make. Rest assured I think all three will withstand your wardrobe tests and I settled on this beauty and she is all that I hoped she would be. A little bit longer and room enough for me to have a blazer underneath and a tee for the ultimate outerwear staple. Its saying something if I like it at 32 weeks pregnant as I am going to be so in love when my guts isn't the size of a basketball and my ass isn't doing me any favours either. This sets the point in stone that no matter what your , um cercimstance is a lil bit of denim jacket will go a long way.

554

555

[twocol_one]As an 80's child denim and leather are in my blood and even though the decade before is being pressed upon us - hard with the 70's retro flavour but it's not really floating my boat except for a big trend and calling card to the revival in the Tan leather introduction. There are plenty of things that would be apart of the fashion file that are a part of this that I am discounting I am sure but the tan details creeping in are working a treat in the grey, white and black situation around my home (and wardrobe). As I do in all my interiors fashion focus is how it comes together and my wardrobe style reflects my room. It doesn't matter what the pantone color of the year is or what interior designers or experts note on what's in or out but more if you like the way it looks get it involved. Without being interior styling ignorant I do realise that this Scandinavian minimal style is a styling trend with the Strig systems and Morrocan rugs and ottomans loud and proud but I see them and picture walls as staples in my home like my tee's and jeans.  Taken straight out of Runway Magazine and the mouth of Miranda Priestly that these 'things' and my fixation on my minimal and evidently bright color free decor steams from long set trends and styles but my point is that I am sticking with it and wont sway to inject neon all of a sudden. [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]

So back on topic and talking tan numbers in your home and wardrobe. I struggle with buying investment pieces that are not of the black variety and 'trend' colors as I fear I will get over it and not use it as much as I should because we all know black goes the distance. I will start with some home investments and move over to possibly the Gucci Soho Disco bag in tan or another monogram LV which I note will go the distance. A tan leather couch is on my list for our second living area and a butterfly chair in leather could fit nicely covered in Icelandic sheepskin  Where do we shop? Etsy is a treasure trove to add personality to your home without having a car load of IKEA (nothing wrong with that BTW)but you can search through and choose what you feel fits your personality. Love these prints for my impending fourth bedroom and this large ottoman..... just to name a few.

SKIN DEEP

product1

[twocol_one]For years after having makeup artists do my face I was always after the 'best' foundation and wonder products that you must have to perfect your skin.Reading magazines and beauty sites with all of the must have products that may or may not have been tried and tested and much like sponsored content and brand ambassadors do they actually swear by it and use it for themselves? Just because its good for someone else it may not be the fit for you, this post included. Skin we lust after and ask what foundation they use or how do we get highlighter that looks like a dewy glow is most of the time placed on skin thats spot free and in most cases helped along by science and pep ups of some sort to start the canvas from the best point it can especially if like me you are not blessed with 'I just woke up and moisturised and look like I have 13 year old skin'.

So we search wonder products and hope for 'The One' to make our dull skin dewy with a splash of foundation and cover spots without a retouch. I do have these wonder products and have found the foundation that works for me and the eyebrow kit that turns mine from being overplucked to supermodel in a few minutes and am not going to lie that you need these things in your life wether you are flawless or not.

I stripped back the regime last year just before I got pregnant to make sure I had everything in order to get the best out of these wonder buys and when I did hunt and lock them down it was on the best base I could offer. First stop was the skin care products that I was using being matched to my skin by someone who knew what she was like and not just because they were in Vogue.  [/twocol_one] [twocol_one_last]I see the girls at Clinica-lase and even though I don't get paid to say so I highly recommend you visit if you are in Melbourne (or Ballarat) I have sent a lot of people there just because I have not had skin this good for years so its easy for me and I sleep at night (well not really but I will in 6 months maybe due to other situations) knowing that anyone can make improvements by visiting. I can just tell you from my experience and my skin is a serious diva so they had their hands full but there are lots of clinics around just try and get some diagnostics on the skin before you make the next move.  I don't think that a product can bring you to skin health on its own if you have not uncovered what lies beneath wether it be damage or whats in the insides but in the same breath keeping it in check makes the treatments worth the $. Dehydration for me when pregnant is an issue but when I am on top of my water intake and not craving and eating chocolate covered almonds I am good.

So a few things that I have been using that have helped my good skin days are:

Cosmedix purity solution - An Oil cleanser for combo skin like mine where I actually think I have dry skin but under the purple light that tells all I am really oily.... oil combats oil. I also love their pure sunscreen. I get Milia and this never blocks my pores.

La Clinica Sunscreen and spot cream - Amazing skin care brand through all ranges. I also smother my babies in the newborn and kids ranges and their previous skin problems are gone. Its a goodie.

Colorescience Primer - Everyday pre mineral makeup. Evens out my skin and gives some staying power without feeling like I have undone the good. I am sensitive so for an everyday solution it works.

If you do not own this next staple I do not know how you survive! I wear her almost every time I am 'dressing up' as in Its a step up from cons and my jeans but even when its not she is still very appropriate. The Black Blazer. Famous in her own right and on the shoulders of every Editor and street style maven. The beauty is you can get a few styles and high street your ass off as long as the material and fit (this can be changed) allows you to pretend It's an investment piece as cost per wear will pay you back ten fold in this case.  Balmain with plenty of options of styles here and a More affordable option and quality won't lie. I am not one to shy away from the color palette of black and white but just like in my wardrobe you need some neutral tones and textures to bring you from too much monochrome. Denim, blush tones and greys are the mixers for clothes and accessories so in the home grey linen bedding, wood and of course greenery in the form of succulents, cacti and foliage. On the note of succulents and plant families I have been building mine last week and it has been a big job. I will post all of the how to and where to go to get what you need. Pots that don't fit the plastic Bunnings pot, the perfect pot in the wrong color.... I sorted this shit right out. I also decided that there is always room in a room for a plant. They are the perfect space filler and make it look so loved.

Ok so Linen bedding has me at hello and back to what I was talking about to start the post was that the white waffle cover is always a winner but to add some interest and texture don't be afraid to get your grey, navy and even blush on in the bedding. I got an amazing set from Zara Home the other week and LOVE. Also Adairs have a stonewash collection that I have in kids rooms, our room on a rotation between others.

This applies to window coverings and the use of marble on table tops and through the decorating. The add on to the basic monochrome base as much or as little as you want.

When I get a second I have the next post in the wardrobe building series with the black blazer up next in the line up. Even at 29 weeks pregnant I can keep wearing as I do not get a pregnant belly on my arms or back so we remain in a good position for an open blazer.

Enough lusting over Scandi Interior and off too work on my own haven so I can get some pics up..... it will happen I promise.

THE NUMBER ONE

cute

vd

I am not talking eye protection but that is most important of course but I am going in on the angle of having an accessory you will wear everyday on the most important feature you have - your beautiful face. I follow the same principle that I do in my life 'buy less, choose better' and spend more money on an original to love and take care of because we have enough fakes and rip offs in our daily Instagram scroll. When I used to get my $49,95 high street 'inspired by' sunnies I would treat them like the price I paid for them which is both wasteful and not a good mind set to not take care in your stuff but when the cash is splashed the case is never out of sight and I have them on the same check list before leaving anywhere as my keys and phone.

So what does one look for in a pair? I am an oversized kind of girl due to the simple fact that they suit my face. I can do an aviator but thats as small as they get. I don't like to make loud statements and true to form I keep it black and neutral with color as I need them to accessorise my life not be the hero. Stick with classics. This is of course just my way to roll. If you can rock it then go for it. The point is choose what you are going to wear everyday so when you spend the cash it's worth it.

I have teamed up with Vision Direct and have sorted a few investments. My year or so old Celine Audrey's have smashed cost per wear and I love every minute so much that I may get a different colorway. When you are on a good thing?! Mixing it up - Ray Ban floats my boat for a more casual option and as close as I get to a 'trend' pair are these Tom Ford beauties with a feminine edge to the aviator.

LAUNCHING MELBOURNE'S FASHION FEST

Campaign Phase Two BTS image 1 c - Lana and Erin

Campaign Phase Two BTS image 2 d
"Lights dim, music fades, the spectacle begins.

It is the first shoe that lands on the runway, the sound of the bass as each model takes their stride, the light that momentarily blinds you before the swish of fabric appears.

It is the theatrical scene that will be sure to delight, every breathtaking instant of fashiontainment, and the creative talent that will marvel.

It is the enchanting moments of the 20th Festival that you are invited to celebrate"

As a proud Melbourne girl and very much repping what us Melbounrians are known for - Fashion, A black minimal and chic wardrobe with our staples based on our seemingly daily need for layers and options for the diva that is Melbourne weather front and a love of our city and people, restaurants and sights within it. I moved a few times this year and now in the home we will renovate to become the 'dream house' so I was forced to be very ruthless in my culling and decisions on what I really wear and what I need to have hanging in the coveted space in the wardrobe(s). Being realistic about what my style looks like and what I am drawn too when I scroll, follow and save also makes it a hell of a lot easier and more efficient when shopping and adding pieces every season.  So lets break it down and start with a piece that I have many of and think that you need many of in all shapes, styles and colors as the glue between the upcoming hero pieces. The humble and forever in style - The T-Shirt.

As it seems we are always on the hunt for 'The One' even when we find her another gem will pop up and we give her a chance.... This is good. We need a variety for moments like your boobs are pre period boob job and the deep V is giving up a little too much information or you have been listening to the trainer and beat the urge of another Tim Tam (or you got ghastro which is so much easier) and something more fitted allows for the compliments to flow. Wear what makes your body sing and suits our best bits. As everyone is onto this favourite staple you have linen, knot details and in the way of IRO hole details. This style always worn out of site of any adults over the age of 50 to avoid the same jokes that roll around when you wear your jeans with cut knees and make you bring the best fake laugh you have. I note that it is a very good tee and the linen blend along with Anine Bing deep V are two of my most worn and highly recommend the investment.

NOTES FOR THE SHOP

Colors - White, grey marle, charcoal, black and nude.

Styles - Boyfriend or an oversized fit which I always shop in the boys section for. You will get the length you need and you can roll the sleeves for a little bit more shape.

Vneck and a higher round neck. I prefer a bit of length as I am tall and the curved hem or split side makes for a great front tuck.

Detailed. Knots, splits, holes, layers or low back detail like this LNA Ripped tee take you from day to get away with the jersey goodness paired back with a black midi, blazer and heels. I tried but not too hard esq vibe.

Final note - Price and brands are not always the teller of the good tee. Quality linen blends and organic cotton are always going to wear better but I have had many a cotton jersey from Asos and small Aussie labels that have served me well. If you find one you love get her in a few colors.
